One of the most common things we hear when we meet with our new clients are that: they have either bought or been given some kind of gemstones, either as a gift or because the person who gave it to them do not know what to do with it. Sometimes they know the name of the gemstones, sometimes they don’t. Sometimes they think it’s genuine, but it’s not. Sometimes they think it’s valuable, but it’s not. Sometimes they think it’s not valuable, but it is. So the question then is, “what does one do with it?”
We share 2 experiences (with permission granted from our clients), of creating 2 pairs of earrings for 2 beautiful ladies, Ms JY and Ms Pek Har. Both having kept their precious gems for a respective period of time.
The first pair, “It’s Worth The Wait”, belongs to JY. It’s a pair of Pearl earrings set with diamonds in 9KWG.
When we met JY, she told us she has been keeping this pair of pearls (without any setting) for 10 years! It was a wedding gift from her mom. She kept it for the longest time because she simply didn’t know what to do with it and she didn’t know any personalize jewelry designers then. Plus, she didn’t want it set just anyhow because of its sentimental values.
Her request was pretty straightforward ~ she loves earrings, she loves dangling earrings to be exact, she wanted dangling earrings which she can wear everyday! The challenge for Wendy Lor was not about the dangling earrings. It was about a pair of dangling earrings JY is able to wear everyday, without the fuss and yet without losing the elegance.
Hence, the creation was a pair of dangling earrings where the pearls sit just below JY’s earlobe. It dangles but not too much. She wears it comfortably on a daily basis. The diamonds are added on for the extra sparkles if need to be worn for a more official occasion. Who ever said, jewelry is not meant to be functional?
