Wendy Lor ~ The Jewelry Artisan

Bookmark and Share
Women Magazine July 1999
Wendy Lor, the jewelry artisan was spotted since 1999. I found this article in a very old magazine ~ a magazine which has probably changed its' name or does not even exist anymore? This was an interview with Wendy Lor, the jewelry artisan in July 1999 and that's 12 years ago! Just look at her picture, much younger and (chubbier too!).

In case you can't read Chinese, the main title says, "Mona Lisa, the cause of Wendy Lor's 'sufferings' to being a jewelry artisan." The sub-title reads, "The pair of hands that cook and cater are the same pair of hands that make jewelry." In a nutshell, the article talks about Wendy Lor's ups and downs in her journey to being a master jewelry artisan.

Personalizing Your Jewelry - Part 2

Bookmark and Share
Welcome to Personalizing Your Jewelry Part 2 as we continue with our sharing on what to do with the gemstones you have been keeping for a while.  In the Part 1, we talked about JY's Pearls set with diamonds in 9KWG.  She has been keeping the pearls for 10 years.  It was a wedding gift from her mom.  In case you missed this post, here's the link, Personalizing Your Jewelry Part 1.

The second pair belongs to Ms Pek Har. It’s a pair of baby blue topaz duo-functional earrings set in 9KWG. This is our many first in our Clever Jewelry Collection.

Personalizing Your Jewelry - Part 1

One of the most common things we hear when we meet with our new clients are that: they have either bought or been given some kind of gemstones, either as a gift or because the person who gave it to them do not know what to do with it. Sometimes they know the name of the gemstones, sometimes they don’t. Sometimes they think it’s genuine, but it’s not. Sometimes they think it’s valuable, but it’s not. Sometimes they think it’s not valuable, but it is. So the question then is, “what does one do with it?”

We share 2 experiences (with permission granted from our clients), of creating 2 pairs of earrings for 2 beautiful ladies, Ms JY and Ms Pek Har. Both having kept their precious gems for a respective period of time.

Rhythm with Wit

I would like to thank Steven and Sunny for allowing me to share my joyful experience of creating their Unique Wedding Bands recently.  (P/S:  As you may have noticed by now, we do not share all the jewelry pieces we create, and when we do, it is done with the blessings of the owners).

I had loads of fun doing their unique wedding ring.  When I first met them, the first thing I thought was, "These two love birds really do enjoy each other's company".  They were talking about themselves and each other in a very rhythmic manner, almost as if they were singing a duet.  They were teasing one another in a very playful and straightforward manner without being "too direct" and yet getting the message across.  They were very spontaneous when it came to what they love doing together.  There were so much of laughter throughout the entire chit chat session.  I just had so much fun because they were truly participating in the conversation about themselves with me.

When I went back to work on their wedding ring concept, it was nearly a breeze for me because of their 100% openness about themselves.  This is one of the most important factors in allowing me to be able to capture their essence and translating that into a pair of unique wedding ring.  More importantly, Steven, the bridegroom-to-be then, contributed a very important input into his ring which made it even more meaningful for them.

On the outside, their wedding ring may look just like another to some, with some artistic designs and gemstones on it, but the true essence of the ring is about them.  They (and of course I do too) know what the gems represent, the hidden message inside the designs and how to read their secret love missive inside the ring.

My joy of creating wedding rings comes most when couples participate in the creation of their wedding rings.  They may not know what they want, but so long they are able to share their stories as much as possible and be honest about how they feel, it is already a form of participation.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart again Steven and Sunny for the wonderful and joyful experience of working with you on your Unique Wedding Bands.  You make my day!

All my heart,

Wendy Lor

Welcome to our Unique Wedding Bands blog!

"We've shopped around for our wedding ring and still can't find what we like."  "Most of the wedding rings we've seen look almost the same.  We can't find anything we like."
Sound familiar?  These are the most common comments I hear when I meet couples for the first time. And if you have tried asking, "do you make custom wedding bands?" chances are the response will be, "oh sure, give us your design and we can make it for you" or "custom rings are very expensive!"

Then you may ask, "so how expensive would it be?"  Their answer would probably be, "oh, very, very expensive...and it takes a very long time...we have a lot of choices for you here, I am sure you will be able to find something you like".

But you can't really blame them.  They are merely doing their job.

How it all started...

I am Wendy Lor.  I have been a jewelry artisan for more than 20 years.  My grandfather was a jeweler, as was my father. The funny thing is I did not want to be a jeweler when I was growing up.  But while studying Visual Arts in Australia, a calling came and I was irresistibly drawn back to the stage that have been set since the day I was born. I have never looked back since.
